MISSION IHAS and our Russian counterparts have the primary objective to locate the final resting place of Levanevsky’s aircraft and crew somewhere off the north coast of Alaska in the Beaufort Sea. Native recollection, and years of research and physical expeditions by this team have narrowed the search area to a site near Spy and Thetis Islands. The plan now is to first verify some earlier data using a sensitive magnetometer in 2016 and second to mount a major and more elaborate search using sophisticated underwater sonar systems the following year.

In addition this same team is focused on other searches including a major effort being planned to solve one if not two aviation unsolved losses in Alaskan waters. The specialized equipment and expertise used greatly enhances the chance of successfully locating and identifying the aircraft.

IHAS is a not-for-profit venture.
